Conference Recap: Eindhoven 2025

The 23rd T2M Annual Conference, held from November 4–7, 2025, at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), was a landmark event for the mobility community. Under the theme “Mobility Alternatives – Alternative Mobilities,” over 130 colleagues gathered to challenge the dominance of “automobility” and explore just, sustainable, and historical alternatives. Key Highlights:
  • Keynote Speakers: The conference featured excellent lectures from:
    • Mimi Sheller: Explored mobility in the age of Artificial Intelligence and its implications for data justice.
    • Carly Gilbert-Patrick (UNEP): Discussed moving walking and cycling from the policy margins to the mainstream.
    • Peter Norton: Reminded us why historical perspectives are essential for imagining future mobility.
    • Ruth Oldenziel: Delivered a valedictory lecture bridging the gap between engineering and storytelling.
  • Main Events: The launch of the book Cycling Cities: The African Experience and the accompanying Cycling Cities exhibition.
    • Excursions showcasing Eindhoven’s world-famous cycling infrastructure, including the Hovenring elevated roundabout.
Hands-on workshops on digital mobility monitoring and “alternative” historical trajectories.
